‘Weblore’ was a series of lore entries posted on bungie.net prior to the launch of, and during the associated seasons of, some Destiny 2 expansions. These lore entries expanded on the background of the characters and locations that would be featured in the expansions. The first few examples of weblore that were posted on bungie.net came prior to the Warmind expansion, on April 30th, 2018. At the time, the entries were named ‘narrative previews’. It wasn’t until August 28th of the same year, just prior to the launch of the Forsaken expansion, that these entires would be referred to as weblore.

weblore.me is a website dedicated to fan-made stories of Guardians from the Destiny Universe.

Some of the first seeds for this site were planted in early 2019 when I uploaded some weblore-inspired artwork to bungie.net’s Community Creations page, which has since retired. It was just one of the many small design exercises I found myself doing in between my university work. The submission got a lot more attention than I expected.

I chipped away at the project here and there over the following years, but I never committed to finishing and publishing it. I have always been interested in the stories, characters and lore of the world of Destiny, but also its roleplaying potential. So, the thought of this project frequently crossed my mind as I continued my journey with the game, all the way through from the Dark Below to the Monument of Triumph.

In light of the recent announcement regarding the end of live-service updates for Destiny 2, I felt compelled to revisit this idea and put it out into the world. The Destiny Universe still has so much potential, especially with its story and lore, but with no new content releasing for the game after the Monument of Triumph update, I think it will be up to the Destiny community to breath new life into it moving forward.

Thank you for reading and taking an interest in this little corner of the Destiny Universe I’ve carved out for myself. The stories I tell about these characters are very personal to me. I’ve spent 12 years of my life looking through the eyes of these Guardians. I love them, and I love the world they inhabit. The world that all of the writers, artists, designers and developers made for us.

I hope you do, too.
